Austra & Grimes @ The Croc 11.15.11

I was impressed that this show was nearly sold out before Grimes came on....and even more impressed that people were actually there to see Grimes. Nice job, Seattle! I haven't paid much attention to her even though I've been seeing the name around the blogosphere for quite some time. Everything I had briefly read was that she puts on a hellova show. Agreed. Girl's got some beats!

After such an enegry charged set at Capitol Hill Block Party, I was concerned that last nights Austra show would somehow be a disappointment. So not the case.

Vow (Diplo & Lunice remix) - Julianna Barwick

I saw this girl open for Esben & The Witch at the Tractor quite a while ago. It feels weird to call her the opener when it didn't even feel like a show to begin with. It was more like hanging out in your friends living room where some chick with a looping machine happened to be singing. The tiny crowd was silenced once she started layering upon layering her own voice. You could easily put her in categories with Austra & Zola Jesus but there's something more angelic about her that them.
